Pakistan’s NADRA to upgrade Nigeria’s national identity card system

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) of Pakistan and Nigeria’s Identity Commission have formalized a historic agreement to upgrade the national identity card system in Nigeria, ARY News reported on Wednesday. As a result of the collaboration, Nigeria’s national identity card system is set to undergo a substantial upgrade by NADRA. The bilateral collaboration, spanning over 15 years, has paved the way for Nadra’s advanced technological solutions to be implemented not only in Pakistan but also in Nigeria, Kenya, and Somalia. During the visit to Abuja, the Nadra delegation engaged in discussions with the Nigerian Identity Commission, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements in identity services. IMF cuts Pakistan’s 2024 growth estimate to 2pc

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday revised down Pakistan’s growth estimate for fiscal year 2024 to two percent – a 0.5pc reduction from October outlook, stated its World Economic Outlook (WEO). According to the Fund’s World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, Pakistan’s growth estimate was downgraded by 0.5pc from 2.5pc in October’s outlook , expecting a “sluggish pace” of growth in the current fiscal year. The IMF’s latest growth forecast is lower than the government’s 3.5pc GDP growth target for the current year. However, the Fund predicts a rebound in economic growth for the next fiscal year 2025, projecting a rate of 3.5pc. Meanwhile, the IMF raised its 2024 global growth forecast to 3.1pc, citing unexpected resilience in major advanced and emerging market economies around the world, including the United States and China. Senator Mushahid elected vice president of IPU Human Rights body

ISLAMABAD: Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who represents Asia in the Committee of Human Rights for Parliamentarians (CHRP) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), was unanimously elected as Vice President of the Committee at its meeting in Geneva. Meanwhile, Millie Odhiambo of Kenya was elected as president of the body. Senator Mushahid’s appointment marks a historic moment as he becomes the first parliamentarian from Pakistan to hold a high-ranking office within a key body of the IPU, a global organisation that represents parliamentary bodies worldwide. Two years prior, at the IPU General Assembly in Rwanda, Senator Mushahid Hussain was elected as a member of the CHRP, the only Asian in this important 10-member committee. Man beats father, uncle to death over property dispute

HYDERABAD: In a horrific incident, a 24-year-old man beat his father and uncle to death in broad daylight allegedly over a property dispute in India’s Hyderabad city  The Mailardevpally police confirmed the causalities and said that a man named Rakesh, 24, killed his father Lakshminarayana and uncle Srinivasulu over a property dispute. The police said that Lakshminarayana, the accused’s father decided to sell their house and the son was demanding his share of the amount. After a dispute between the son and father, other relatives were also called to settle the matter. The son-father duo argued the issue during which Rakesh dragged his father on the road and started beating him with an iron rod. The police said that a relative believed to be suspect’s uncle Srinivasulu tried to intervene and rescue Lakshminarayana, but was also beaten up by Rakesh.
