Barrister Gohar elected unopposed as PTI chairman

ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after other candidates withdrew from the intra-party elections, ARY News reported. Omar Ayub has also been elected unopposed as the General Secretary while Yasmeen Rashid emerged as President PTI Punjab chapter. The PTI announced in a statement that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub are declared for the party’s top two positions  after the withdrawal phase The announcement said, “The Federal Election Commissioner will, however, declare the election’s final result on March 3 at the conclusion of the election process.” The PTI decided to hold intra-party polls after the Supreme Court decision, upholding the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) verdict that that resulted in the party losing its electoral symbol bat. Outgoing caretakers take important decision about gas, electricity prices

ISLAMABAD: The Caretaker federal government has decided to empower the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to fix electricity and gas tariffs respectively without the government’s approval, ARY News reported. According to details,   the caretaker government has decided to end the government’s role in the regulation of gas, electricity, and petroleum products prices. The sources privy to the development said that the federal cabinet through circulation approved amendments in separate rules of the OGRA, NEPRA, and Petroleum Division. The sources said that after the amendments, OGRA, NEPRA, and Petroleum Division would be empowered to regulate the prices without government interference. PML-N clinches another seat after vote recount

LODHRAN: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) clinched one more National Assembly seat after a vote recount in NA-154 Lodhran, ARY News reported. As per details, the Returning Officer (RO) ordered the recounting of votes on request of PML-N Abdul Rahman Kanju’s request. After the recount of votes, the PML-N candidate emerged victorious with a lead of 7301 votes against independent candidate Rana Faraz Noon. As per revised results, PML-N’s Abdul Rahman Kanju bagged 127,984 votes while independent candidate Rana Faraz Noon got 120,683 votes. Gulberg Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shehrbano Naqvi is being hailed as a hero after she saved a young woman wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy printed on it from a mob attack in Lahore’s Ichra Bazar.   A day earlier, a charged mob gathered outside a shop in Lahore’s Ichra Bazaar after someone alleged that a woman’s shirt had Quranic verses printed on it. The woman, who was accompanied by her husband, sought refuge in a nearby shop. As per eyewitnesses, most of the people in the mob were either customers, visitors or passersby. The garment traders – who gave shelter to woman – were aware of the calligraphy print being available in the market. But despite the traders’ explanation, the angry mob insisted on a “blasphemy” charge. The woman’s dress had the word “Halwa” printed in Arabic letters on it, meaning “beautiful or sweet” in Arabic. GHAZIABAD, INDIA: In a shocking road rage incident in India, a man was carried on the car’s bonnet for more than three kilometers. The incident was reported from Ghaziabad district of the Indian state Uttar Pradesh. A Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera in the vicinity recorded the incident, and the video has gone viral on social media. The police said that the cars of the victim and the accused persons had an accident that triggered a furious dispute between them. Following the heated arguments, the two accused allegedly picked up the victim and carried him for three to five kilometers on the bonnet of their vehicle. The victim is seen in the CCTV footage clutching to the car’s bonnet, seemingly in an attempt to “stop” the vehicle. But, the driver continued to speed away, dragging the man for more than three kilometers while he is hanging on the bonnet. Minor girl, man shot dead by robbers in Karachi

KARACHI: In what appears to be a renewed wave of street crimes, a minor girl and a citizen lost their lives during separate robbery incidents in Karachi on Friday, ARY News reported. A 2-year-old girl, who was later identified as Hoorain, was shot dead in a firing incident that took place near Owais Shaheed Park near Korangi No. 4. Police officials said that two armed men riding two motorcycles intercepted a man at his doorsteps and tried to snatch his motorcycle. The robbers opened indiscriminate fire when the victim offered resistance. As a result, a two-year-old girl, who was present inside his house, caught in the firing, killing her on the spot. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed independent candidate Salman Akram Raja’s plea, challenging the victory of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party‘s(IPP) Aun Chaudhry, ARY News reported As per details, Salman Akram Raja moved to the ECP, maintaining that he won the NA-128 Lahore seat as per Forms 45 of the constituency. He requested the ECP to declare Aun Chaudhry’s victory null and void. The ECP, however, rejected the plea and maintained that the PTI-backed independent candidate may approach the election tribunal. PML-N excuses from ‘sharing power’ with JUI-F in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has refused to form coalition government with Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) in Balochistan, with the former ready to share power with Pakistan People’s People (PPP) in the province too, ARY News reported on Wednesday, citing sources. JUI-F Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri held a meeting with PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar regarding the government formation in Balochistan. Sources told ARY News that Abdul Ghafoor Haideri offered its former ally to form a coalition government in Balochistan. However, Ishaq Dar rejected the offer and said his party was going to form a coalition government with PPP as the power-sharing agreement between the two parties had already been reached in the Centre. LAHORE: A special operation cell of Punjab police claimed to have arrested an individual from Dubai allegedly wanted in several murder charges, ARY News reported on Sunday. According to police officials, the notorious shooter identified as Tayyab Ejaz was booked under six murder cases in Punjab before he fled the country. The police officials claimed that the accused, Tayyaz Ejaz, is under custody and being transported to Pakistan with the assistance of Interpol.
