Jirga fines Sindh police cops for Saddam Lashari’s ‘fake encounter’

KARACHI: A local jirga has imposed heavy fines on Sindh police officials found of killing activist Saddam Lashari in a “fake encounter”, ARY News reported, citing sources. The illegal jirga, presided over by Lak Bijarani and Sardar Zulfikar Sarki, found the Jacobabad police of killing the activist in a fake police encounter and imposed Rs20.2 million fine on the police officials involved in the operation, sources said. Lashari was killed in an alleged police encounter in Thul town of Jacobabad district in Sindh. The jirga in its verdict directed the two Station House Officers (SHOs) along with four policemen to pay Rs20.2 million to Saddam Lashari’s family in fines. IHC judges’ letter: Over 300 lawyers call on SC to hear matter under Article 184(3)

ISLAMABAD: Over 300 lawyers, belonging to different bar associations, urged the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan to hear Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges’ allegations of interference by intelligence agencies in judicial functions under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, ARY News reported on Sunday. Police in India solved the case of a citizen’s mysterious death after the suspect was accidentally captured by another man’s phone while filming a selfie video. LARNACA: Ships carrying 332 tons of food for Gaza left Cyprus’s Larnaca port on Saturday in a convoy which will reach the besieged enclave early next week, authorities said. It is the second shipment this month after Israel eased a 17-year naval blockade on the Gaza Strip to allow aid in from Cyprus, sourced by U.S. charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) for starving Palestinians. The aid will be taken to Gaza on a cargo ship and a barge towed by a salvage vessel, along with a tugboat carrying a support team in a journey which will take about 60 hours, a Cypriot official told Reuters. KARACHI: At least six Station House Officers (SHOs) posted at different police stations of Karachi have been suspended during the last month over a surge in crimes in their respective jurisdictions, ARY News reported. Pakistan launches scheme to bring retailers, wholesalers into tax net

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a compulsory tax registration scheme targeted at retailers and wholesalers in major cities of Pakistan, ARY News reported. The scheme has been launched in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Peshawar and will come into effect from April 1, as per an FBR notification. However, traders will make their first tax payments on July 15, said the notification. SIBI: Former Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khalid Marri was gunned down by unidentified assailant in Balochistan’s Sibi city, ARY News reported on Friday. In a statement, the police said the martyred police official was travelling in his car near the local plaza on Chainak Road in Sibi when suddenly an unidentified assailant opened fire on his car, which resulted in his injuries. Saudi Arabia introduces Ramadan commemorative passport stamp

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia launched a special passport stamp to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan, enhancing the travel experience for pilgrims and visitors. The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Culture collaborated to launch a special passport stamp for the Ramadan 1445 AH season. The initiative aimed at documenting this gracious occasion and reviving the historical cultural heritage and traditions of the holy month. Israeli strikes kill at least 29 Gazans awaiting aid

At least 29 Palestinians were killed while awaiting aid in two separate Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, Gaza’s health ministry said. In the first incident, Palestinian health officials in the Hamas-ruled strip said eight people were killed in an airstrike on an aid distribution centre in Al-Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip. Later, at least 21 people were killed and more than 150 wounded by Israeli gunfire at a crowd awaiting aid trucks at a northern Gaza roundabout, Gaza’s health ministry said. In a statement, Israel’s military denied attacking aid centres, describing the reports as “false.” “As the IDF assesses the incident with the thoroughness that it deserves, we urge the media to do the same and only rely on credible information,” the statement said. The Gaza conflict has displaced most of the enclave’s 2.3 million population. Chaotic scenes and deadly incidents have taken place during aid distributions as desperately hungry people scrambled for food.
