KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori on Wednesday announced a new initiative to provide free breakfast to schoolchildren across the province, ARY News reported. Addressing a ceremony in Karachi, the Governor announced the launch of the “Governor’s Initiative for Free Breakfast for Students”, which aims to provide free breakfast to children in government schools. According to Kamran Tessori, a survey revealed that many children in Sindh are unable to eat breakfast due to poverty and inflation, with some children not having milk for two years and others not eating eggs for six months. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), which reported “severe heat-wave conditions”, recorded the temperatures at two Delhi suburbs stations at Narela and Mungeshpur. King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques passed directives to host 2,322 Hajj pilgrims including 1,000 family members of the martyrs, prisoners, and wounded Palestinians, local media reported. According to a kingdom media outlet, 22 family members of conjoined twins who were separated in the Kingdom will also be hosted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. The other 1300 pilgrims are from 88 countries around the globe. ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has increased the toll tax by 35 to 40 per cent for different categories of vehicles, effective from July 1, 2024, ARY News reported on Monday.   The toll tax hike will be applicable on national highways, including M-1 (Islamabad–Peshawar Motorway), M-3 (Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway), M-4 ( Faisalabad-Multan Motorway), and M-5 (Sukkur Multan Motorway) with M-15 (Hazara Motorway), and the Havelian-Mansehra Expressway. On national highways, the toll tax for cars has been increased from Rs30 to Rs40, for wagons from Rs50 to Rs70, for buses from Rs100 to Rs130, for 2 to 3 axle trucks from Rs120 to Rs150, and for large trucks from Rs250 to Rs350. KARACHI: Maripur police of Karachi on Saturday successfully foiled the smuggling attempt involving Iranian dry milk worth more than Rs 3 million, ARY News reported. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Keamari, Faizan Ali, stated that a truck carrying a total of 100 sacks, weighing 2,500 kilograms, of smuggled dry milk was seized. ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) on Friday disclosed an alarming increase in the national poverty rate over the past five years, risen from 38.6 percent to 39.5 percent, ARY News reported. As per the PIDE research report, Balochistan is the most affected province with 70 percent of its population living below the poverty line, while, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) a 48 percent of the population faces poverty. ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet approved Rs 70.48 billion for hydropower projects, ARY News reported. Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presided over a meeting of the ECC that approved several proposals from various government ministries and divisions . The ECC okayed Rs70,484 million for the Ministry of Water Resources as cover for hydropower projects. LAHORE: The first special flight carrying Pakistani students from Kyrgyzstan successfully landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, ARY News reported on Saturday. A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Navi Mumbai, India for allegedly printing and distributing counterfeit currency, local police confirmed. According to the Central Unit of the Crime Branch of Navi Mumbai police, a suspect named Praful Govind Patil was for his ‘involvement’ in producing fake currency notes currency. KABUL: A firing incident was reported from the central Afghanistan, resulted in the deaths of four people, including three foreigners, ARY News reported on Friday. The Taliban officials released an official statement, confirming the death of three foreigners, including a women, along with an Afghan citizen in the gun attack. A spokesman for the Taliban’s interior ministry disclosed that seven other people, including four foreign nationals were wounded in the attack.
